Planning significant updates
[edit]I have nominated this article for the Core Contest. Large sections of it are completely un-sourced. My plan is to organize the article as below and begin rewriting according to reliable sources.
- Astronomy
- On Earth
- Beyond Earth
- Biology
- Culture
- History and technology
- In art
- In folklore
Feedback is welcome, and if others are interested in improving this article, feel free to {{ping}} me and I can post my bibliography as I take notes, Rjjiii (talk) 18:03, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

Initial review
[edit]The article is overall well written. It is to-the-point, simple, and easily understandable. That being said, there are some things that need to be addressed:
- The historical dangers of night are mentioned in the lead and history sections but are not concluded. What I mean by this is that it’s not explained how this differs from today, as most of what is mentioned is still somewhat true. Also, there should be more info about the origin of the fear of night (why humans are scared of the dark… ect). There is a lot of interesting info about it and it should definitely be included in this article.
- “Gangs were uncommon except for housebreaking.” What does this mean? The link provided talks about animal training, which I suspect is probably not the intended destination. Please clarify this.
- In the fungus section, it mentions that Nuerospora crassa, unlike other fungi, has a circadian rhythm but does not explain what this means. What specifically makes it different from a normal fungus?
- In the plant section it says that “Cyanobacteria absorb DNA at a faster rate.” Absorb into what? How are they absorbing DNA? What are you talking about? This is very confusing and should be clarified, especially considering bacteria don’t even use DNA.
You could also include an etymology section into the article. The word "night" has a long history. This isn't required, but would be nice. ZKevinTheCat (talk) 16:58, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
