How is this a 20 year long war?

[edit]

It began in 2003 and ended in 2020. AccomplishedTale7 (talk) 09:37, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting proposal

[edit]

I propose that the History section, up until yesterday called the Timeline section be split off into its own article (Timeline of the War in Darfur). As it currently stands the section is quite large and quite list like, it lists off things that are, in the grand scheme of the war unimportant to how it played out and was clearly built up as the conflict was onging. I think the article could do with a summary of the war, but I am also reluctant to throw out most of the information in the timeline even if the events listed are irrelevant to how the war played out, hence my splitting proposal. DervotNum4 (talk) 15:12, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the history section is pretty long. The detail might be useful for a more in-depth reader, but most people would prefer a shorter summary. Ironic (talk) 20:36, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Turns out the page Sudanese conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile also deals heavily with War in Darfur (And a lot of content that is unrealted to the conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile due to the page formerly being about both conflicts) in the same way that this article does, I think I may go ahead and do the split. DervotNum4 (talk) 04:06, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think a re-write might be better than a split. See War in Sudan (2023–present)#Course of the war for an excellent way of writing a timeline without the need to have an actual timeline.
if you still think there are excessive information, than having an article about each period of the conflict would be more beneficial, e.g., Hassan al-Turabi era and Resurgence of the RSF, as the article also miss out on Gaafar Nimeiry era and Sadiq al-Mahdi era. FuzzyMagma (talk) 15:23, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A re-write is something this page certainly needs, but I think both a re-write and a timeline could be useful in a similiar vain as to how the current war in Sudan both has page of its own (War in Sudan (2023–present)) and a timeline page (Timeline of the War in Sudan (2023–present)) DervotNum4 (talk) 21:55, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support the split, as per above discussion FuzzyMagma (talk) 16:36, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree a timeline is necessary along with a rewrite of the main article; this is a twenty-year war with not a single page about a specific incident in the war. A timeline would work a lot better in presenting the course and history of the war to readers and still be encyclopedic. Jebiguess (talk) 16:33, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm probably going to start up a draft of the split in the next couple of days. It's going to take a while though just because I have to check the accuracy of all the info already on the page DervotNum4 (talk) 09:01, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Change title to "War in Darfur (2003-2020)"

[edit]

There are a few conflicts when you refer to Darfur, such as the ongoing one. We may need to distinguish this. Also a war would probably refer to a major conflict however the conflict was not major just small villages no real damage except casualties. SDUpdates32349 (talk) 20:18, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You should know by now that we do not invent names, you should also be familiar how to name (primary) topics. See WP:COMMONNAME and WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. FuzzyMagma (talk) 22:45, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If that is the case we still need to distinguish the years, there is the Invasion of Darfur (1916), Darfuri campaign (2023-present). SDUpdates32349 (talk) 11:36, 12 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We do not. War in Darfur where the Darfur genocide was committed remains - by miles - the primary. If you still think there is a confusion (supported by page visits and google search) then please create a dab. Have a look to events like famous battles during the WW2 like Battle of the Atlantic and Battle of Britain. You can also add to hat at the beginning of the article if you think - again where supported by data - that readers go to this page by mistake FuzzyMagma (talk) 14:03, 12 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
